Between 1988 and 1993 Maitreya, the World Teacher, released a series of forecasts and analyses of the current state of the world, as well as fragments of His teachings. Through one of His close associates in the Asian community of London, these were released to Share International for publication and were sent to the world’s media as press releases. Maitreya's teachings
Awareness

Excerpts from interviews with Maitreya’s associate

A collection of insights into this important human growth process. (963 words)

Awareness is not ideology. (Share International, Nov 1988)

Awareness is nothing but the reflection of your real Self. When you merge with your real Self you can transmigrate, transmute, transform. (Oct 1988)

Awareness is the light of life. Anything done outside awareness leads to destruction. All thoughts which lead you to selfishness lead you away from awareness. Yet in awareness there is no burden. You remain meticulous, immaculate, pure. There is gracefulness, peace and happiness. These are the blessings of the Lord. (May 1989)

Awareness is a God-given gift. No one can take it away from you. It cannot be controlled by rules and regulations. (Dec 1988)

Awareness is something so sacred that it purifies the Self and frees it from creation. It brings about salvation and oneness with the Creator. (Jun 1989)

Maitreya says: “Awareness alone is more powerful than nuclear bombs, more powerful than anything else in the universe. Awareness is even ‘beyond light’.” (Dec 1988)

Awareness is so powerful it could even make creation disappear. It is the destiny of the individual to have this power of awareness from God. (Jul/Aug 1990)

In awareness lies salvation. In awareness you can control the energies within you. Only in awareness is there equilibrium. (Jun 1989)

Awareness in one person can spark awareness in millions of people. (May 1989)

It is the individual who is changing, experiencing a greater and deeper awareness. In awareness everything becomes purified. In awareness everyone is forgiven. In awareness the Self realizes he is not the doer, but the witness of creation. The Self witnesses the functions of mind, spirit and body but is free of them. Is there then any stress, confusion, chaos? (Jun 1989)

Awareness will be respected in the home and in the school as a sacred, God-given gift. Awareness is the mother of creation. Awareness can never be divided, nor imposed. Textbooks cannot describe it, because there is no beginning nor end to it. Awareness can only be experienced. (Jun 1989)

As awareness grows, it guides the Self which can then use the mind, spirit and body with intelligence. Balancing energy and environment is the key to salvation. In awareness there is no memory. Memory is only in the mind. All struggle and care is in the mind, never in awareness. The Self is neutral and free from suffering. Awareness protects the Self. Suffering, depression and craving for drugs are all states of mind. Awareness sets you free and allows you to enjoy life. (Dec 1989)

Awareness is Vishnu — the aspect of Deity which sustains and nurtures mind, spirit and body. Awareness is universal. It does not ‘belong’ to any religion, nor to any guru, saint or politician. When you judge, saying ‘I am right. You are wrong’, you are caught in the web of attachment. The Self must always practise detachment. In this way, awareness will grow. (Jan/Feb 1990)

Maitreya says: “Supreme Being is beyond mind, spirit and body. It is awareness which makes the Self experience the Supreme Being and the Becoming of the Lord.

“Awareness cannot be individualized. Awareness embraces the Supreme Being and the Becoming of the Supreme Being, and in awareness the Self experiences equilibrium. The discipline of equilibrium is generated and sustained by detachment.” (Nov 1990)

The statement of Jesus “I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but by Me” means that only through awareness can we reach the Almighty.

This truth is personified in Jesus in the Christian tradition. If you ‘de-personify’ this truth, it can be understood as the principle of awareness.

Maitreya’s view is that you cannot reach the Almighty through knowledge and wisdom alone. This path can lead you to deities, essentially creations of the mind. In this there is no salvation.

This is why the way to the Father is ‘only through Jesus’, or awareness, because in awareness there is no attachment, no desire. In awareness there is no time or space.

According to Maitreya, there should be no conscious attempt to seek God’s ‘whereabouts’, because if you are honest, sincere and detached the door opens. Maitreya says: “Through awareness you evolve. Only the Lord can quicken the pace. Whatever is given to you is yours. Do not allow it to be disturbed. Consciousness is divine as long as it is not interfered with. But the moment it is played with it is undivine. You do not have to please Me. Make your Self happy and I am happy with you.” (Dec 1990)

Jesus was freed from the bondages of knowledge and wisdom. He realized that in awareness He was one with God. (Oct 1993)

Maitreya says: “You have given up certain things in life to concentrate on the Lord but you are not ‘coming closer’. Rather, it is a process of awareness — the awareness that the Lord is behind you.” (Apr 1990)

Maitreya says: “When your mind, spirit and body are in confusion, you need to purify them. What is the purifying force? Awareness.” (Jul/Aug 1991)

It is the hand of Maitreya Himself which is guiding events through awareness. In awareness, there is no division, no yes or no. There is only unity which contains all diversity. (Mar 1991)
