Between 1988 and 1993 Maitreya, the World Teacher, released a series of forecasts and analyses of the current state of the world, as well as fragments of His teachings. Through one of His close associates in the Asian community of London, these were released to Share International for publication and were sent to the world’s media as press releases. Phrased in the words of His associate, Maitreya’s spiritual teachings are arranged here by subject in the hope of facilitating the reader’s study and application in daily life.

Maitreya's teachings
Evolution and Creation

Excerpts of Maitreya's teachings indicate the need to respect these natural processes. (1692 words)

The mind, spirit and body are like the elements of nature. They do not change. “God created the entire universe, in which He placed mind, spirit and body for the Self to realize the Being and Becoming of the Lord.” The one who changes through experiences is the Self. (Share International, September 1988)

“Your destiny is freedom. No one is ‘born in sin’. Rather, the Self is subject to conditioning during the process of evolution. The process of evolution is the Becoming.
“If you follow the three principles of honesty of mind, sincerity of spirit and detachment, evolution proceeds naturally. Your ‘second nature’ is conditioned nature, but practice of the three principles will free you from conditioning. No one is ‘condemned’ to conditioning.” (Apr 1990)

When awareness is still dormant, ‘isms’ control mind, spirit and body and create divisions. This is maya — or illusion. When awareness controls and guides you, ‘isms’ cannot come close to you. Awareness can even make a king give up his kingdom. Privileges divide, denying oneness to the entity within you. ‘Isms’ are not thrown away all at once. They are steps on the way. Awareness controls the pace of evolution. When the Almighty bestows His grace on you, you keep your name and throw away the ladder which enabled you to climb. However, the ladder is useful for those still on the ground. (Jun 1989)

‘Isms’, ideologies and beliefs are essential stages in the life of every human being. Maitreya told us that they represented the ‘second nature’ of our lives, that evolution can only take place through them, and is in fact controlled by them.
Maitreya said that we should not tell people to abandon their beliefs and philosophies or trust and faith in them. Human beings are motivated by ‘isms’ such as love, faith, trust, and patriotism. It is important for their survival in second nature — in the world in which they live. The spark inside them has, one day, to be free from that nature and its illusions.
Even if, through meditation or spiritual awareness, you feel momentarily free of the world of the mind, spirit and body, you should not abandon it but continue to respect and honour it.
Every individual, every nation, is ruled by their second nature. The laws of evolution governed by this nature surround the Self and it is up to the Self to learn to master them with awareness. Awareness builds up a movement in life which creates evolutionary progress. But awareness must not be confused with freedom, for that is the ultimate destiny of the journey through life.
While each person is locked into his journey through evolution, dependent on his second nature, he should be taught the art of self-discipline and through this he gradually becomes aware of how to use the laws of evolution. In spiritual terms, the second nature is the supreme becoming, which is the second nature of the Supreme Being.
We are evolving in cycles of time, experiencing birth and death. Salvation is in the Supreme Being where there is no movement, only continuous awareness. This is the spiritual journey of one and all: to learn the art of Self-awareness. (Mar 1990)

The Lord guides one and all in every station of life. No one is ‘immune’ in creation. We are all interdependent. Once you realize what the laws of evolution are, you manipulate them, but you do not break them. (Mar 1990)

Anything and everything done in the shadows of doubt, suspicion, confusion and fear will cause the process of evolution to degenerate. This means ‘involution’. (Nov 1990)

“Imposed transformation is undivine. Transformation from within is always permanent.” (Jan/Feb1991)

Many yogis are attached to spiritual powers. Here a crisis arises: Yogis in deep meditation open up windows of the mind and spirit. They can see creation in mind and spirit. But if the yogi cannot close these windows again, he becomes ‘derailed’. No one can stand the cosmic dimension in mind and spirit. It is beyond human capacity to witness this.
This is why Maitreya says: “Never try to be what I am. Be what you are. I am with you. My relationship with you is like the relationship between a mother and her baby. The baby does not want to be the mother, but its destiny is to be a parent one day.”  Maitreya says: “One day you will be what I am.” (Dec 1990)

What will happen if, as in the case of some yogis and saints, you try to force the pace of evolution? You will not be able to endure the cosmic dimension of the Lord. The same thing happens to a baby. Evolution must be natural. The baby will be a parent one day without fuss and struggle if it evolves naturally. (Dec 1990)

Never quicken the pace of consciousness. Even if you know how to quicken the consciousness of a baby, it should not be done. Let natural growth take place, and the mind will be in a state of equilibrium. (Dec 1990)

Maitreya’s view is: “If a person has been born in a jungle and you take him out of his environment into ‘society’, you can change him over years but not overnight.” (Oct 1993)

Maitreya says: “You cannot transform a monkey into a zebra. To do so is undivine. You cannot undo traditions and cultures overnight; this is destructive. Everything has its own natural pace of evolution. Everything is subject to natural evolutionary processes. The so-called political, social and spiritual leaders must learn the art of evolution.” If you talk about freedom you must learn what it is. If you dabble in religious, social or political leadership without knowledge, it will lead to chaos.
Maitreya says: “Every spark in creation has its own distinct, separate evolutionary pattern which only the Lord Himself knows.” (Jan/Feb 1991)

Creation

The total sum of creation is in the human being. (Mar 1990)

Both scientifically and religiously, it can be understood that creation came out of light (sound, colour and vibration). In creation there is totality: the physical has mental and spiritual counterparts. Maitreya says: “When the Self, with awareness, is able to move with detachment in mind, spirit and body, it cannot be caught in the light spectrum. Light is the spectrum of total creation. When the Self follows light, it will be goaded into the spectrum of creation — and the cycle of evolution — until the Self can free itself from it with awareness.” (Sep 1990)

We think of creation coming out of a ‘Big Bang’. But before the Big Bang there was a vacuum. (Jul/Aug 1989)

The entire creation came from the Big Bang. Does this mean you have to go back to the Big Bang? No. You want to move on. (Oct 1993)

In creation everything is moving. Do not step into creation. Observe it, watch it, with the clear understanding that everything belongs to the Almighty. (Jul/Aug 1990)

In the domain of creation, we find consciousness. In the domain of the Supreme Being there is omnipresence, omnipotence, and, quite simply, awareness. Gurus, saints and rishis know that all elements in creation can be controlled, but the domain of the Supreme Being can never be controlled. (Jul/Aug 1990)

Creation is a launching pad for freedom. Maitreya says your mind, spirit and body are matter of creation evolving towards the Supreme Being — the freedom of complete awareness, so do not neglect them. (Mar 1990)

Perfection is only in the Supreme Being. We are not in the Supreme Being. We simply experience the reflection of the Supreme Being in the process of creation. No one should make attempts to be perfect in creation, because this leads to a fight against the forces of life. (Jan/Feb 1990)

At the human level, it is very difficult to understand creation, because at the human level everything is conditioned. Only highly evolved souls, aware and detached, can guide humanity towards freedom and salvation. This is why Maitreya teaches honesty, sincerity and detachment, because these three, if practised, generate awareness & equilibrium in mind, spirit & body.
In light there is total creation. Light is the mother of creation. The ‘beginning’ and the ‘end’ are in light. But Life is beyond light. The source of Life is in the Supreme Being.
Nevertheless, creation around us is important to us. Maitreya says: “Nothing is outside us. Everything is within mind, spirit and body. Those who learn the art of Self‑realization in mind, spirit and body will experience that everything within and without is from one source which we call God. In effect, anything and everything belongs to the Almighty. Once that sense is developed in the mental body, then the spiritual body will follow the same pattern and the Self will be able to express equilibrium and detachment. The ‘isms’ of desire such as ‘mine’ and ‘yours’ will fall into the right perspective. The Self is not mind, spirit or body. The Self is immortal. Mind, spirit and body are the clothes given by the Almighty at birth and discarded at death. It is Life, which is experience, which becomes the source of energy. Experience is very important for the Self to be able to move in mind, spirit and body and establish mastery. When this is done, creation is mastered.” (Sep 1990)

Nature controls creation and no scientist will ever have that power. People can learn to understand the laws of evolution and use them creatively, but they cannot control the destiny of creation. (Sep 1990)

When mind, spirit and body are in equilibrium and the Self thinks of anything in mind, that will materialize. The moment you desire an orange, it will be before you. The moment you desire to ride a horse, it will be before you.
When you experience this, it will no longer be a mystery. Until you reach this stage, it remains a supreme mystery of life. (Sep 1989)

Maitreya says: “Whatever is in front of you, around you, rest assured its roots are within you. Creation is within you. The roots of objectivity are in subjectivity and that subjectivity is you.” (Dec 1991)
