Between 1988 and 1993 Maitreya, the World Teacher, released a series of forecasts and analyses of the current state of the world, as well as fragments of His teachings. Through one of His close associates in the Asian community of London, these were released to Share International for publication and were sent to the world’s media as press releases. Phrased in the words of His associate, Maitreya’s spiritual teachings are arranged here by subject in the hope of facilitating the reader’s study and application in daily life.

Self-respect and Self-realization

Maitreya's teachings about the Self, the spark of the divine within each person, are relevant to spiritual growth in one's daily life. (696 words)

Self-respect is the seed of awareness. (Share International, Jun 1988)

The message to one and all is to generate self-respect.

The most important temples in life are the spirit, which must be fed with sincerity, the mind, which must be fed with honesty, and the body, which must be fed with right food. This will create harmony in mind, spirit and body. (Jun 1988)

The Lord Maitreya inspires everyone through mind, spirit and body to generate, first, self-respect, out of which the blessings of salvation will emerge which will make life meaningful for one and all. (Jun 1988)

No matter what the degree of your crime, you can train yourself in self-respect by practising sincerity of spirit, honesty of mind, and feeding your body with natural food. It is your natural heritage. Use it. (June 1988)

Self-respect is the foundation stone of social renewal, and without it nothing can be built. (Jul/Aug 1988)

Maitreya says: “Nothing will be imposed from without. Everything will flower from within.” (Jul/Aug 1988)

An inner process of developing self-respect and the awareness that ensues from it is the necessary prelude to success. (Jul/Aug 1988)

There is no substitute for dealing with a person’s internal world. If life has no meaning, then ‘meaning’ is what must be restored. For this to happen, it is necessary for the person to experience himself differently, to experience a sense of his own worth. Once that happens, he can grow in self‑awareness. (Jul/Aug 1988)

Maitreya says: “Be what you are. Do not surrender your self-respect, your dignity to others. The moment you surrender yourself to some other self you become a zombie. Do not allow any shadow, even, to possess you. Your destiny is to be free.” (Oct 1988)

When resistance is created in mind, spirit and body, life becomes meaningless. To escape this, people take drugs, and then become addicted. Only when the Self is freed from tumour-like ‘isms’ can this problem be solved. This can happen only when the Self is given self-respect. The art of communication is an important part of this process. (Jul/Aug 1989)

If you respect your Self, you respect the entire creation. Then there are no ‘friends’ or ‘enemies’. Disputes between people do not take place in the Self, but in mind, spirit and body. What matters is the Self, the spark of the Almighty. Maitreya says: “If you are a thief, I am with you. If you are a king, I am with you.” (Jan/Feb 1990)

All suffering is due to lack of respect for the Self. Human beings have failed to respect the Self. The moment you do respect the Self, you will enjoy freedom and happiness. The moment you practise the principles of honesty, sincerity and detachment, life ceases to be a struggle. (Mar 1991)

Maitreya says: “Do not cheat yourself. Respect yourself.” (May 1990)

Self-realization

Maitreya says: “Self-realization is God-realization.” Self-realization has nothing to do with religion, politics or any form of ideology. (Sep 1988)

Self-realization (a gradual process entailing non-identification with anger and other destructive emotions and ideas) brings equilibrium in mind, spirit and body. (Jan/Feb 1991)

Anyone, at any stage, can learn the art of Self-realization and will find he can enjoy life. Life is to be enjoyed, with detachment. (Sep 1989)

Awareness of the environment is the first step in Self-realization. (Sep 1989)

Maitreya says: “I have not come to found a new religion. Each of you should continue to develop within your own religious tradition. I have not come to create followers. Even when you see Me, do not run after Me. If you run after Me, you will lose Me.” He adds, “I have come to teach the art of Self-realization.” He points out that this is neither an ideology nor a religion, and benefits people of all religions and none. This is why He says, “I belong to everyone.” (Dec 1988)

Those who learn the art of Self-realization in mind, spirit and body will experience that everything within and without is from one source which we call God. (Sep 1990)

Maitreya says: “Anything created in the name of  Self-realization will last for ever and ever.” (Jul/Aug 1988)
